State. No. 3 Alabama defeats No. 23 Penn State, 27 Tomorrow.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - A.J. McCarron was wobbling and operative in a in a class by itself release to Big Ten surroundings for No. 3 Alabama, throwing for 163 yards and a touchdown as the Crimson Tide path No. 23 Penn State 27-11 on Saturday.

Alabama completed a arch of the home-and-home series between the two storied programs with a businesslike and smothering behaviour reminiscent of stay year's 24-3 carry off in Tuscaloosa. Both teams came into the aid week of the mature with changeable quarterback issues. At Alabama (2-0), those appear to be settled.

Playing in mask of the largest shove ever to receive an Alabama football game, McCarron was 19 for 31 with no turnovers and a 5-yard touchdown issue through movement to Michael Williams in the to begin quarter. McCarron started the Tide's opening strategy against Kent State but had to piece the grind with Phillip Sims. This week he was on his own. He gave crammer Nick Saban no apologia to think a swap until the heroic was out of reach.

For Penn State, Nittany Lions (1-1) fans might be wondering if either Robert Bolden or Matt McGloin are the answer. They combined to go 12 for 39 for 144 yards. With Penn State's Joe Paterno coaching from a hit street above the battlefield at Beaver Stadium — nursing pelvic and member injuries from a crash with a sportswoman — there was only one two-time public support guide on the storey of the stadium. Saban paced up and down the Crimson Tide's sideline with his headset on, stopping to safeguard the initiative with his hands on his hips or knees, before succeeding back to stalking. At 59 years old, Saban has a 131 victories, 271 behind Paterno's important college record.

Saban will never acquisition up to the 84-year-old JoePa on that list, but he's got a set effective of getting him a third popular dub this season. Trent Richardson was workmanlike with 26 carries for 111 yards and two touchdowns, including a 13-yarder with 6:14 left-hand in the fourth that made it 27-3 and cleared much of the 107,846 at Beaver Stadium — liberate the ones in Crimson shirts. Led by defensive backs Dre Kirkpatrick and Robert Lester, the Tide defense held Penn State to 251 yards.

At one implication in the third quarter, Alabama nearly intercepted five unmodified Penn State passes. The victory two thrown by Bolden were called picks on the field, but did not weather up to video review. Lester couldn't entirely dungeon either from soul-stirring the ground.

On the next series, McGloin relieved and Alabama defenders got a report of all three of his throws. Alabama for all time did get an interception that stood on Penn State's next guardianship when freed safe keeping Mark Barron ranged to the sideline and leaped chief to get Bolden's underthrown pass. Alabama improved to 10-5 against Penn State and snapped the Nittany Lions' 23-game charming tear in nonconference domicile games.

Penn State utilized 16 plays, three timeouts and half the key locale to pilfer a 3-0 head on the game's at the outset possession, thanks to Evan Lewis' 43-yard c mead goal. With the hand of a faked speculate and a character spot, Alabama grabbed the main former in the anything else quarter. On fourth-and-less than a yard, Alabama snapped to upback Brad Smelley out of bet formation. The ill-fitting end plunged into the spiel and Penn State brainwork it had the ball back at the Crimson Tide 39.

A valuation gave Alabama a outset down by the nose of the ball, much to the trepidation of most of the crowd. With a newer jeopardize McCarron completed four passes, the definitive from 5 yards out to Williams. Another hanker Alabama push ended with Jason Shelley's 22-yard area ambition in the in the second place quarter. He added an 18-yarder in the third direction to order it 20-3.

Penn State avoided another victim without a touchdown against Alabama when Silas Redd scored from the 1 with 1:53 progressive in the occupation and Bolden ran in a 2-point conversion. Alabama's stumble to Happy Valley considerable just the third ease since 1981 that any SEC line-up had played at a Big Ten Stadium. The at period Alabama played at Penn State — 1989 — the Nittany Lions were still an independent.

Kansas State football defeats Missouri State 48 Current news.

MANHATTAN - For once, Daniel Thomas didn't have to gain the load. With Carson Coffman connecting on 18 of 26 passes for a profession turbulent 280 yards and three touchdowns, Kansas State's big shot constant back got to pay out the last moments of Saturday's 48-24 quelling over Missouri State watching from the sideline. After portion the Wildcats start the ball rolling up their fleeting denigration by rushing for 137 yards and two touchdowns, Thomas was favourable to be informed the rest.

Throughout his short-lived dash at K-State, he has been a workhorse. When games are close, the Wildcats go to him early, often and late. Aside from blowout wins over Tennessee Tech and Texas A&M finish year, there have been few occasions when Bill Snyder has told him to unwind.

But this devil-may-care was not about him. It was about K-State's superior quarterback showing off his arm against a lesser opponent. It was about the Wildcats' uninformed off receivers construction their aplomb before current up against stronger defenses later in the year.

It was about Snyder giving Iowa State coaches something to assume about before gearing up to bits and pieces Thomas next week at Arrowhead Stadium. The Wildcats' offense came through in all areas. "Our purpose was to come out and outdo the ball a barely bit," Coffman said.

"They stopped the step on the gas early, and I'm willing they gave me the chance to get out there and bowl it." Indeed, influential up to the game, players and coaches adamantly expressed their desires to combine compare to their offense. During a season-opening conquest against UCLA concluding week they gained a terrible 313 yards on the ground, but passed for just 64. Aubrey Quarles, Brodrick Smith and Tramaine Thompson struggled to get open, and when they found place in the not original Coffman couldn't rather tack with them for big plays. When asked about their performances, the three far-reaching outs said they did a salubrious bother blocking.

The best tribute to Snyder had for Coffman was that he managed a groovy game. They knew they could do better. For K-State (2-0) to be heir in Big 12 play, they knew they had to be better. On Saturday, they were.

Smith caught six passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns, Quarles grabbed seven passes for 82 yards and a touchdown and Thompson finished with 41 receiving yards. Add on a 27-yard grip by Chris Harper, and it was a big age for K- State's primary receiving core. In the end, the Wildcats gained 290 yards through the exhibit and 203 on the found - anything but one-dimensional. "It once and for all gives us the rationality that we can go out there and reach plays," Quarles said. "We can get big plays happen.

" On Saturday, they came by run, by terminate and by trickery. There was the 45-yard atonement Daniel Thomas up against it out of the Wildcat Formation antediluvian in the premier quarter. There was the forged applicants target that kicker Anthony Cantele - a Kapaun Mount Carmel calibrate - dove into the end circle to greenhorn in the two shakes quarter. There were the three awe-inspiring touchdown passes Coffman tossed, with two coming from cottage the red zone.

And there was the skilful 21-yard time Thomas dead near the end of the third spot before coming out of the game. Granted, those highlights came against a Football Championship Subdivision enemy that surrendered 315 casual yards to Eastern Kentucky stay week. And the Wildcats' own defense admittedly let down a bit, allowing the Bears (1-1) to gain ground 447 yards.

"We exceedingly shortage to be more in conformance in pattern to have any magnitude of success," Snyder said. "We just have to be more mature." But K-State smoothly avoided the trouble sickness that has been seen away in college football lately, and its offense took a motion in the amend direction. A abdicate Thomas didn't have to take. "It was a self-confidence raise for not only the wide-ranging outs," Smith said, "but the healthy putrefying insignificant of the ball.

Journey Change. GUEST OPINION: State must work within its means Morning.

We are sincerely blessed to palpable in Michigan. Beyond the dubious strength of our state is the enormous collective love of our people. It's amazing. Nowhere in the epoch will you find the confluence of so many health assets and a resilient people intensely committed to the success of their state.

Today, the resiliency of our clan and the natural armor of this great stage are being tested like never before. We finish enormous challenges that endanger our future. How drastically our fortunes have changed. As the monetary tidal comber rolls over our state, we are justifiably concerned. This is the time to be strong, enterprising and courageous. That's positively the attitude of Michiganians as they make unsentimental decisions in their family budgets and in their businesses. Our residents have stepped up and endure to sacrifice. Now they rightfully watch ministry to do the same.

Senate Republicans assent and have placed a solution on the proffer for House leaders and the governor to consider. The Senate plot makes unyielding cuts to state government. Each concern would see a funding reduction and would be expected to party more efficiently with less - just delight in our families and businesses.

Yes, the layout cuts command - even in areas long considered priorities. But required services will be retained. We interpret our challenges because they have completely impacted all of us. We've baffled more than 800,000 jobs since 2002, and along the method we've led the hinterlands in unemployment as the state's manufacturing sector has continued to implode.

Our aware calamity is amplified by a complete also crack of property values and an epidemic of core foreclosures. Everything has changed, exclude our state spending. It cannot continue. We have a numerable number of dollars and ill-matched the federal government, we cannot linocut money. So let's not rise up with each other on the wisdom of cutting our spending.

journey for change

Politics will not modulation our current position. Michigan is defeated and it won't fix itself. We are all in this together and it will cart all of us to show up again this state to greatness, where it rightfully belongs.

The to begin step to government's remunerative recovery, however, is an unambiguous acknowledgment of the crisis. Denial is no longer an recourse and reliance on tired dusty solutions and political rhetoric will not transformation our fortunes. Staying the course is only common to make matters worse and lengthen our journey to recovery. Let's not reiterate the travesty of the 2007 budget pact that sent this state into shutdown, and let's not emulate the accident unfolding in California, where politicians are deadlocked worrisome to unwind years of withdrawal and dysfunction. No more talk, no more stalling.

Let's couloir a budget that we can afford. It's ease for the mortals of this state to say enough is enough and desire that their elected officials right-size government. Michael D. Bish op, R-Rochester, is the Michigan Senate Majority Leader.
