When asked about his belittling memories from "The Tonight Show," Leno recalled interviewing John F. Kennedy Jr. before his cessation in 1999.
"That was manner of an wild point because it was rather odd. I was 12 years unused when John Kennedy was shot. I call to mind watching the entombment and my mammy crying hysterically on the divan when they showed scarcely John John, you know, waiving at the casket.
You understand when you're a kid and you meditate your mamma hysterical, crying, it's like, ‘Oh God,' you don't be familiar with what to do. "Then it big-hearted of went out of my mind, and I had John F. Kennedy Jr. on the show and I was in the dressing allowance talking to him and it didn't hit me there.
But then I was sitting down at the desk and I told the audience, ‘Please welcome, John F. Kennedy Jr.' As soon as I shook his hand, out of the corner of my eye, I epigram him shaking my workman in the monitor, and then, for some reason, I got all emotional.
"I flashed back to my mom and at no question in my zing did I ever over that that elfin division would be completed." Not unsatisfactory to give offence anyone, Leno had a troublesome age choosing his favorite "Tonight Show" host. "Well, Johnny Carson was the guy. Steve Allen was great also; Jack Paar was more cerebral.
But Johnny was the one that brought the show to the palpable heights.
