Apollo wins to begin meeting game Supper.

It's a stereotypic sports cliché but compelling it one game at a time works for a reason. Looking winning could cost you in the tiny term. If Apollo High School wants a submit privilege in baseball they gotta survive and advance. Which is what they did Monday in Lexington.

The Apollo baseball span is no foreigner to the Kentucky State Tournament. They've been here 9 times out of the hindmost 18 years. They went to the semifinals in 2007 and 2008.

And looks to go the uninjured progress in 2011. Head carriage Bob Mantooth and the Eagles, skin a Mayfield unit that went 5 and 16 during the cyclic season, but won 5 in a file to make it to the sweet 16. Top of the basic inning, Apollo already leads it by one when Matt Hodskins smacks a infra dig hit into sinistral field, scoring Matt McCarty and putting the Eagles up 2 to nothing. Next batter, Wesley Purcell lines one through the radical affectation scoring Luke Dugherty, and Apollo leads it by three. Mayfield would wend two more batters with the bases loaded, and the Eagles put up 5 runs on the live before Brandon Hamilton even takes the mound.

Hamilton would fire a cream this afternoon, suggestion 4 hits and picking this errand-girl off at 3rd base. Apollo would condition 4 more runs in the transcend of the sixth, and the Eagles development with a dominating 10 to nothing supremacy over Mayfield. "It was refined to get some runs in the 1st inning. There's no have reservations about that.

And then Brandon went out and got 3 apt outs, so that de facto got us off to a virtue start," Mantooth says. "We just gotta remain fighting no subject what. Even if we're down 10-nothing, we gotta accede fighting," Apollo pitcher Brandon Hamilton says. "We came out tolerably forward with the bats, but we were also patient. Took what they gave us because the pitcher was a diminutive wild," Apollo 3rd baseman Luke Daugherty says.

"This gives us a lot of nerve no proceeding who we play. We just have to part of our game," Apollo outfielder Wesley Purcell says. Apollo starting pitcher Brandon Hamilton threw 5 scoreless innings, while 3 divergent Apollo hitters drove in 2 runs apiece.
